A question we’re often asked at Digme Fitness is, “I’m a beginner – can I still do your indoor cycling classes?” and the answer is always an emphatic YES!
Everyone has been a first-timer at some point, and any nerves or apprehension you may feel about trying something new are completely normal. However, that’s where our staff come in to make your experience the best it can be, whether it’s in Richmond or Oxford.
From helping you with your shoes, to setting up the bike properly, to giving you that all-important high-five at the end, we’ll do everything we can to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
Here are some common concerns and why you don’t need to worry:
I’ve never worn clip-in shoes before
Don’t panic! We’ll help you choose the right size, and we’ll be there when you clip them into the pedals for the first time. You’ll quickly get the hang of clipping in and out, and you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes for a smooth, efficient pedal stroke which works your hamstrings and glutes as well as your quads.
I don’t know how to set up the bike
Again, either the instructor or one of the studio staff will guide you through the different adjustments, making sure you’re comfortable. We know how annoying it is to be a few minutes into a class and feel uncomfortable, so we’ll ensure you’re in the correct position before you get going.
I’m not very fit
No worries! Everyone has to start somewhere. The beauty of our bikes is that you’re in total control of how hard you work. The gear lever is right in front of you and controls the resistance of the pedals, just like on a normal bike, and you’ll always be able to see what gear you’re in on the little console.
The instructor will give you a range of gears as guidance, but if you need to take off a few gears to take a breather it’s completely fine. The classes comprise periods of work interspersed with regular spells of rest, so you’re never far from a well-earned break.
I’m scared of the data
Don’t be. The data displayed is only to help YOU. You’re not competing against anyone else but yourself, and trust us, no one else in the class is looking at what you’re doing. Everyone’s only interested in themselves and most probably trying to improve on their last performance. You can read more about how data can be extremely useful for beginners HERE.
I don’t like getting sweaty
We can’t promise that you won’t sweat a bit, but what better excuse to use our luxury showers, Cowshed products and Dyson hairdryers?!
It might be too hard
Like we mentioned before, the only person in charge of how hard you work is you.
We are looking forward to seeing you for a workout soon!
